The Canadian Power & Sail Squadron is a National organization whose prime mandate is to promote safe boating. To help accomplish this, the NORTH BAY POWER & SAIL SQUADRON has been providing training courses for over 50 years.

The introductory boating course is held twice each year (Sept - Dec.; and Jan - Apr.) This course is 12 weeks, and covers such topics as: basic navigation including the buoy system, boat handling, knots & lines, docking, anchoring, introductory weather. At the end of the course an exam is written and passing this entitles the student to join the national organization of Canadian Power and Sail Squadron, and also to take advanced courses.

V.H.F. radio courses and understanding your G.P.S. are also offered to any boaters in the area.

All the local Squadron executive and course instructors are volunteers who donate their time for the training, and also organize social events such as fish frys, overnight and day cruises.

The North Bay Power and Sail Squadron is one of 177 Squadrons across Canada which make up Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons.

Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons is a nationwide association of boating enthusiasts, dedicated to improving boating safety through training.

Each year, CPS members teach a variety of courses to 10,000 or more concerned boaters in the general public across Canada. CPS is well known for its "Boating Course", which is the primary course offered to the public.

CPS is a non-profit organization incorporated under the Companies Act (Canada), and its administrative and instructional work is done by members - without remuneration.

At the 2011 District AGM, also hosted by North Bay, we received our longevity pennant and celebrated our 50 year history.

Our Mission is:
To increase awareness and knowledge of safe boating,
by educating and training members and the general public,
by fostering fellowship among members, and
establishing partnerships and alliances with organizations
and agencies interested in boating.
