Hickson Trophy

Harry Hickson was a founding member and the first Commander of the North Bay Squadron in 1961. He also taught boating courses at that time. The students presented him with a trophy in 1962 for outstanding service. He returned the trophy in the following year, requesting to be passed on to members equally deserving recognition for effort and time spent.

The John Swartz trophy is presented about every 4-5 years to the best student in the ADVANCED PILOTING class, in remembrance of John Swartz.

The FRANK WINDSOR Trhopy is presented yearly since 1979 to the most deserving student in BASIC BOATING, to remember Frank Windsor, Commander in 1968-69 and chief instructor for some years, and daughter KATHERINE, who at the age of 11 years passed Basic Boating, the youngest person in Ontario at that time. She was a Junior Associate and proctored for some time after. Frank was a great believer in teh cause of the Squadron. He was killed in a car accident in July 1978 at the age of 64, along with 16 year old Katherine.

Dave Byrnes “Larger Than Life” Memorial Award

Awarded to a North Bay Power and Sail Squadron member, who has actively participated in, or has significantly contributed to, Squadron activities or affairs.

This award was created to honour Dave Byrnes who served two separate terms as Squadron Commander as well as other roles and whose enthusiasm for safe boating could truly be described as “larger than life”
